    Agapanthus

Four recent paintings of agapanthus, two are in oils and two in acrylics....and to think I'm not really sure about painting flowers. The second painting is in Oriel Cric Gallery until November. Giclee prints are also available of some of them in my shop. #oilpainting #garden #acrylic #painting #studio #Dardy #abergavenny #Llangattock #summer #flowers #bees

    Buzz in the Bindweed

I've not long finished a linocut print of my old cat Buzz. He spent most of his last summer, sleeping and taking it easy, in a small patch of bindweed onder an old vine in a corner of the garden. Like many cats he liked to circle round until things were nice and soft for him to sleep on. #garden #print #flowers #studio #Lino #Dardy #summer

    Greenman

I've been slowly developing a design for a linocut of a Greenman for a couple of months. A Greenman is a mythological image/character that can be found in many churches and Cathedrals. There are many theories about the origin and meaning of of the image, with connections to Paganism but also into Christianity. There is lots of information online about them. I have tried to bring in more of the ecology of the (Oak) trees, plants and flowers (Lesser Stitchwort, White Bryony) a

    Halki

When I'm lucky enough to travel to distant places, I usually use my camera to record images. Unfortunately I have got out of the sketchbook habit of recording directly, although I do record ideas and develop compositions into several small books. In Greece recently on the island of Halki, I thought I'd try a different approach. I took paints (acrylic and watercolour) and some very small offcuts of board, about 15x10cm. The rest is pretty simple, find somewhere out of the sun

    Honey bee

I've been working on a lino print of a honey bee for a while. I have just finished printing today. It has been quite difficult. It is a 'double reduction'. I used two lino blocks, cutting away at each of the blocks. One for three colours and the other for two. I'm not totally sure about the colours I've used in one of the editions but because it's a reduction print, there is no way back. My favourite part is the spent dandelion flower. I think there is a possibility of anothe

    Usk trout

I've been working on the idea for this print for a while. A trout's eye view of Crickhowell bridge from the water, or even the bridge and the swallows inside the trout (maybe a future print). It has ended up as a sort of above/below water, river scene, from early April The trees are bare and the Lesser Celandine is blooming. The swifts and swallows are flying round the bridge. Well I'm quite pleased with the result, I hope others like it. In the end there are three small edi

    Spring!

Spring! Saw my first three swallows of the spring today. They were flying low over the fields opposite, heading up the valley. In the lane towards the church the white Stitchwort is flowering in the hedgerow. #flowers #Dardy #Crickhowell #seasons

    Hellebores

The Hellebores in the garden have been looking fresh and fine. I've been trying to use them in a composition but it just didn't seem to be working out. When the weather was poor I put some in a vase to bring in and one thing led to another..... I have actually painted some (pinkish) flowers in a vase! Keeping the Easter theme going (Lentern Roses) I painted a duck egg and put everything on some light blue cloth. Finally a few of the heads of Ivy berries from the hedgerow oppo
