I've exhibited in the lovely gallery at the Rheged Centre in Cumbria, as an exhibitor in the Great Print Exhibition, several times before. The gallery has such high professional standards, I'm always keen to take part. After the Great Print 10 last year, the gallery have decided not to put the exhibition on this year, I think it's because they want to move it back to it's former spot in the spring. A few months ago they contacted me and kindly asked me to submit some of my reduction linocut prints for their upcoming 'The Brilliance of Birds' Exhibition.
Fifty Seven artists/photographers have their work on show, a wide and interesting selection, I was really pleased to be included, a lot of my most popular and successful wildlife prints feature birds. The way I like to work when making a composition is to imagine I'm there with the animal(s), rather than watching from a distance... so with birds, I can be flying!
I sent seven framed prints and a good number of unframed prints (for a print rack)and a lot of cards.
The private view was in the evening of Thursday 2nd July. An opening talk was given by Cumbrian artist David Cemmick and by Jim Moir (YES, Vic Reeves off the telly!) who had some of his excellent and characterful bird watercolours in the exhibition.
I got to meet Simon King as well (the wildlife photographer/film maker/author) who had some photographic work included.
Click on each image to enlarge and to find the name of the artist.
This is just a very small selection of the wide range of work on show and for sale (these are the photos that came out the best!). The exhibition runs until 4th October, well worth a visit!
A big thank you to Claire and Charlotte and all at Rheged, for inviting me to take part and for making me feel very welcome. It was a great evening and brilliant to meet you at last.
