Usk River Otter

Updated: Jul 7, 2020

At long last and after a lot of design and preparation work, this otter print is finished. A varied edition again, printed using Caligo Safewash inks onto Somerset satin paper. There are three main colourways, one ochre, one blue and one a range of greens and blues.

I usually lose around half of the prints to smudges and being off registered, so I started with around 55 prints hoping to end up with over 25. Luck was with me and the edition is of 40! I’ll add some extra pictures of the design and printing process. I’ve put some into my Etsy shop.

The bridge looking up through the water is based on the bridge at Crickhowell near to where I live. Otters have been seen around here again over the past few years. I’ve tried to show the water falling over the weir and the weed and gyres twisting with the wriggling and darting movements of the otter.
