Crickhowell Open Studios (Art Trail)

A big thank you to everyone who helped to organise the Crickhowell Open Studios weekend and also to everyone who came to see the studios and galleries. We enjoyed having so many visitors to Rose Cottage. Many nice comments were made about my work, the studio, the garden and the lovely view across the valley. I've been taking it easy today (apart from taking the signs down), thinking about some of the reactions to my work and what I'm going to do next. Tomorrow I must get to grips with that bindweed!.......and the allotment (weed patch). #crickhowellopenstudios #studio #Llangattock #Crickhowell #Dardy

Crickhowell Open Art and Open Studios

I've just got back from the rather crowded and sweaty (it was so popular and it has been such a hot day!)launch of the Crickhowell Open Art exhibition. The standard of work on show seems to improve every year. Once again it is an interesting and varied collection of work. My studio space is almost ready for the Open Studios weekend (I'm kidding myself I know), as soon as I finish writing this I must get on and sort out the last of the lino and Giclee prints for the print rack. It has been a lot of effort but I'm sure it will all be worth while in the end. If you can visit, I will be very pleased to see you and I hope that you enjoy the artwork on show.If you haven't managed to pick up a guid

Jackdaw

There was a Jackdaw doing a comedy clockwork walk up and down the on the stone wall. I could see it watching me through the window, with its spooky white eye, as I worked. It was there for about ten minutes until his mate turned up and they flew off together. I've already been researching Ravens and Magpies for some recent compositions, so I originally thought of producing a painting of the Jackdaw walking on the wall (it may still happen). It has ended up as a lino print and I'm quite pleased with it. Adding the lettering wasn't easy! Cutting in reverse and in perspective, although I think it gives the fairly simple image some extra depth. I'll print it in a blue black and hopefully make an

Butterfly faces?

I enjoyed making the colourful beetle prints a few weeks ago. So I thought I'd develop one of my other insect face ideas into a simple small lino print. With Crickhowell Open Studios at the end of the month, I decided to print off two small limited varied editions. One onto some nice Zerkall printing paper, the other onto some quality blank cards(300gsm). Hopefully I'll end up with about ten in each edition and they should be quite inexpensive. #print #crickhowellopenstudios
